Collins Dauda's Brother Flees Ghana...

Abdulai Naaba, younger brother of Collins Dauda outgoing Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has fled Ghana into neighbouring Burkina Faso.

Controversial man of God and Founder of the International Godsway Church Bishop Daniel Obinim who revealed this to his congregation on the 31st December watch night service, disclosed that the wife of the runaway Naaba is also a member of his church.

He failed to state exactly when Naaba left Ghana but said he has been weeping ever since he left the shores of the country for fear that the incoming government may hunt him down for comments he purportedly made.

Bishop Obinim also revealed that the wife of Naaba is heavily pregnant for which reason he is appealing to the president-elect Nana Akufo-Addo and his vice to forgive Abdulai Naaba who is alleged to have made comments that ‘he has killed people and he can kill again’

“He is my church member, the wife who is pregnant is currently at this programme, please am on knees, he was just bragging, he cannot even hurt a fly. Forgive him, please forgive him’ he pleaded in a very sober voice.

It would be recalled that Abdulai Naaba on an Accra-based radio station, mentioned that they will beat Kennedy mercilessly should he step foot in Asutifi South describing Kennedy as a mad man who only rants unnecessarily.

“Who is Kennedy Agyapong to threaten me with death, we have been killing before he was born. I have killed human beings and I will finish anybody with bad intentions before his time “he concluded.

Rashida Black Beauty Malafaka’ Video Pulled Down

Management of 2016 Jigwe Award winner, Rashidatu Mohammed, whose controversial video popularized the term ‘malafaka’, has finally pulled down the controversial video from Facebook two months after its release.

In an interview with one Mr. Awesome, who currently heads Rashida’s management team, said the decision became necessary due to Rashida’s growing brand which requires the need to shift focus to her current projects.

“Initially, the reactions were mostly negative, because of the strong language and references to sex, but gradually, people started expressing their love for her, so a new chapter is opening.”

According to Mr. Awesome, the 18-year-old’s sudden rise to fame has changed her perception about life and boosted her morale to work hard towards her dream of becoming an actress — which is on course, after she received offers from some of Ghana’s leading production houses.

He says Rashida will enrol in a training programme to improve herself for the industry.

“Sometimes, good things come out of bad situations, and that’s exactly how Rashida’s journey has begun. And already, her fan base extends to Europe and America, because, aside the malaka part, a lot of people think she possesses something special within her to do better in life.

Rashida Black Beauty is now a brand that portrays confidence and pride of being an African with dark skin,” he concluded. Rashida is one of the most searched Ghanaians on the Internet in 2016, after her use of the term ‘malafaka’ (a corruption of the offensive American slang, ‘motherfucker’) in a video that was shared thousands of times on various online platforms.

In the video, originally meant for her ex-lover who she referred to as Kushman, the young lady claimed he had verbally abused her after jilting her for another lady.

Rashida proudly touted herself as “Black Beauty”, and narrated how faithful and supportive she had been to Kushman prior to the break up.

At Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region where the story originated, a rap song, titled Malafaka, was released by Mr. Awesome and his rhyme partner Kooko, which had Rashida featuring in the video, a situation that led to a video reply from Kushman, who attacked the two rappers and referred to Rashida as having a “black dog’s face.”

On December 22, 2016, Rashida’s video beat “I can’t think far” by popular comedian Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, to receive the award for Viral Video of the Year at the Jigwe Awards organized by Viasat-1 TV at Kempiski Hotel in Accra. In the same month, the Rashida Black Beauty fan page on Facebook hit over 20,000 likes in just three weeks.

Leak Video: Chidinma Okeke Finally Opens Up on What Really Happened

Since the story of the sex video involving former Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke, broke a few weeks ago, several groups and individuals have come forward with different versions of what transpired between the embattled 20-year-old beauty queen and the organisers of the pageant.

The former beauty queen was seen in a shocking x-rated video with a lesbian partner. Surprisingly, the video was released on October 11, 2016, a few days before the expiration of her tenure originally billed for October 28, 2016.

Every day across the state since the video hit the streets, different versions of what led to the scandal are churned out by the actors, leaving the people confused and unsure of what to believe.

Since the scandal broke, Miss Chidinma Okeke, who won the Miss Anambra beauty pageant, organised by the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), has remained incommunicado, choosing to go into hiding over alleged threats to her life. She has also remained silent, leaving her lawyer to do most of the talking.

While the father, Sir Jeremiah Okeke, had claimed in recent reports that his daughter had been handed over to a relation for safety, some others claimed that the ex-beauty queen had relocated abroad.

But after weeks of keeping quiet, Miss Okeke has finally broken her silence. In an exclusive interview with The Nation, she debunked claims that she threatened to commit suicide, adding that there was never a time such thought came to her mind.

She also said her life might no longer be in danger, adding that her traducers were no longer threatening her life, and maintaining that those who were after her life had stopped contacting her.

She also said the faces behind her agonizing period in Anambra would be revealed soon, adding that with God, all things are possible.

Narrating her own side of the story, she said: “Early last year, the ABS advertised for the Miss Anambra beauty pageant. I heard of it and went to make enquiry.

“My roommate was also interested, but one of the organisers told me to apply. I told them I was not interested but the man insisted that I might win the competition. He also promised to give me the form for free if I indicated interest, and he did when I agreed to contest.

“But one Jane told me that before a winner would be declared, there were certain things to be done, including the (sex) video. I consented after some persuasion from the organisers. I later went for the contest at the Marble Arch Hotels in Awka, and I was declared winner with a Kia Rio vehicle as star prize.

“When I went for my car after the contest, the organisers brought out a contract form for me to sign, but I told them I wanted to contact my lawyer to see it. I was not given the opportunity to do so.

“What they kept telling me was that if I insisted on not signing the contract or wanted to contact my lawyer, they would release the video.

“At that point, I became uncomfortable and signed the contract to avoid such embarrassment, and the car was released to me from where it was packed within the premises of ABS.

“From that moment, I became a slave to them. On October 11, 2016, they called me to come and make presentations inside the office of one the organisers. After that, the man excused some people in that room and showed me the video again.

“They told me to drop my car and removed my crown from me. I told them I would take the car as stipulated in the contract. They insisted I should pack it in the premises of (ABS).

“I told my uncle in Abuja about the situation. My uncle called them and asked them to release my car to me. Instead, they forwarded the video to him as part of the blackmail. That was what happened,” Chidinma said, crying.

She also said the scandal had weighed her down. Amidst sobs, she denied being a lesbian, saying she had never been involved in the act.

For her parents, Sir Jeremiah and his wife, Lady Nora Okeke, the incident remains a shock.

According to Sir Okeke, the management and organisers of the pageant capitalised on his daughter’s “age and naivety to deny her whatever monetary gains she made while serving as Miss Anambra.”

He added: “How can a beauty queen borrow money to pay her driver, even when she is supposed to be receiving a monthly salary?

“I cannot say all that I heard or saw. Why was she not paid her winning prize of one million naira fully? Rather, they paid her on installmental basis. And up until today, the money has not been completely paid.

“They have rubbished her and rubbed the family’s name in the mud. But we have united as a family, praying seriously for my daughter and for the people behind this wicked act to be exposed.

“My family at first agreed not to tell me about the whole thing, because I am hypertensive. But they decided otherwise when things got out of hand. I told them this issue will not kill me because I have had worse experiences while in business years back.

“My God, as always, will answer me and expose the truth in no distant time. I won’t say much because the damage has already been done.

“Chidinma is a small girl who does not know anything, hence, she fell into a trap that was too heavy for her to shoulder. But I thank God she is recovering.”

All through the interview, Chidinma’s mother, who was advised by the husband to remain silent, continued to hiss, and motioning her hands towards the heavens in supplication to God.

Two of the chiefs in Ogboji community in Orumba South Local Government Area, where Chidinma hails from, Chief Obi Okoli (Idejimba) and Chief Julius Nwankwo (Nwabulu-Omee), told The Nation that the incident had left them in shock.

Okoli, who described Chidinma as a nice and well-trained girl from a Christian home, saw the entire thing as a set up, but argued that such issues would only happen if somebody presents oneself.

According to him, “she is a well brought up girl from a good family background and Christian home. There could be more to this than meets the eyes.”

Asked if the community was not going to say anything on the s*x scandal involving their daughter, Okoli laughed and said: “There are ways of handling such issues, and I don’t think the community will be involved.”

Also speaking, Chief Julius Nwankwo, described the situation as a pity, adding that today’s children behave as they like.

However, he said that the people of Ogboji community were seeing it as blackmail, adding that none of them was happy with what happened to their daughter.

He said: “As an Ogboji man, I am pained that such a thing happened to one of our own, and that is why we want the authorities concerned to look into the saga appropriately, with a view to arresting those involved.

“When our daughter won the award, we were happy. For anybody or group of persons to rubbish her and our community is what we will not condone.”

Nwankwo said they heard some people had been apprehended over the sex scandal, adding that the authorities should look well in making sure that wrong people were not punished.

The Managing Director of ABS, the organisers, Uche Nworah did not comment on the queen’s allegations when we contacted him. He instead  referred us to the organisation’s earlier statement.

In the earlier statement, the organisers had dissociated themselves from the scandal. Part of the statement read: “The attention of the management of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, organisers of the Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant, has been drawn to a video with lurid contents purportedly showing former Miss Anambra, Miss Chidinma Okeke (Miss Anambra 2015).

“The said Miss Chidinma Okeke, who is allegedly linked to the lurid content in circulation, has served out her term as Miss Anambra 2015 and handed over the crown in line with the terms and conditions of The Miss Anambra pageant.

“We condemn in clear terms any amoral behaviour/conduct as suggested by the alleged lurid content in circulation and do not condone such.

“It is on record that The Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant has been a platform to empower Anambra women and celebrate our rich culture and heritage. Winners of the pageant are bound to contracts to be of good conduct and moral behaviour and to uphold/maintain the honour in their position as queen.

“Winners of the pageant also contract to refrain from any personal relationship that could appear to hinder their ability to perform the duties of their office as queen and role model, and we do not expect any less.

“We, therefore, wish to dissociate The Miss Anambra pageant from any discussions on the said allegations.

“We feel sufficiently perturbed by the mere reference already made to the pageant and hereby state that we are in no way connected to the controversy.

“We apologise to the government and good people of Anambra State, our sponsors, supporters, friends and all those associated with the Miss Anambra project for the embarrassment the mere reference to the pageant in the controversy may have caused whilst reassuring of the good intentions of the Miss Anambra pageant franchise.

Journalists Must Pay For Accreditation Says Charlotte Osei Insists

The chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam

Charlotte Osei has told Editors forum in Accra yesterday that her outfit had no option but to charge media practitioners who are applying for accreditation to cover the December 7 election, because the Commission lacks funds to print the accreditation free of charge.

Journalists have been asked by the EC to pay GHC10 and GHC20 respectively for the printing of the accreditation cards, but most of the media practitioners are not happy with this, because the Commission had been given adequate funding for the election and must, therefore, provide the cards free of charge.

The European Union has for instance given the EC 4million pounds whilst the government of Ghana had also paid GHC693 million out of the GHC1.2 billion requested to enable the electoral body to organize the elections.

But Mrs Osei explained that not all the 4 million Pounds Sterling came to the EC and that, the money was distributed among four state institutions and they (EC) only got One Million Pounds Sterling.

She mentioned other recipients as the National Media Commission (NMC) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

“So we don’t have 4 million pounds. If you say we’ve received GHC693 million from the government, “You would recall that the final budget that was approved between the EC, the Special Budget Committee and the Ministry of Finance was GHC1.2 billion, so clearly you now see the reason we need you to pay for your accreditation cards?”She asked rhetorically, laughing all through, adding that “… so please as good partners pay the GHC10 to ensure that you can move around the polling stations and do your work freely and ensure the difference between you (Media) and the voter on the election day.”

The programme ‘briefing by the EC Chairperson’ on the theme: ‘Election 2016: Innovations, flashpoints and other challenges,’ was to give the media the opportunity to discuss any issues bothering them and to seek clarification concerning the general election scheduled for December 7.

The Chairperson of the EC told the journalists that the Commission would follow laws and make sure the processes leading to the election were transparent.

She made this assertion when responding to a question that the EC was too ‘legalistic and unyielding’.

According to Mrs. Osei, it would be safer for her outfit to be legalistic in an election like this. “Are we being legalistic? Yes, should we be legalistic? Yes. In a high contest like we have, I think the safest place for the Electoral Commission is to follow the law to the best of our understanding and ability. Anytime you exercise discretion, which cannot be supported by the law, you risk being taken on by another side, whose rights are also affected.

“It’s very easy sometimes for us to also seek the right of those who are directly affected by the application of the law, forgetting that if you do the opposite, somebody else can take you on, so the safest place for the EC is to be legalistic. I don’t know of any Electoral Commission worth its sort that has not been called unyielding by politicians. I think that’s what you should do. You should be unyielding when it comes to the application of the law. Everybody feels safer and everybody’s rights are respected.”

She said that the EC had made provisions for solar and rechargeable lamps, which could last for twelve (12) hours in case of power outage during the counting of the ballot papers on the day of the election.

She noted that, every polling station on Election Day will require about 97 different items such as Biometric Verification Machine (BVD), Stamps and others, out of which 94 are ready, as of now and being sent to the regions, awaiting movements on election day.

The Chairperson also indicated that the list for the proxy voting and the special voting would be made available to the public on Monday. She added that there would be two (2) hourly briefing with the media on Election Day, so that the media is constantly updated and informed about any challenges we are experiencing with the process and any issue we seek the support of the media to address.

She continued that the total number of proxy voters for this year’s election would be five hundred and thirty-four (534), not the two-hundred and seventy thousand (270,000) being bandied around that the EC would use to rig the election.

“We’ve also been told that we are going to use special voting process as a vehicle to rig the elections. In 2012, there were about a hundred and twenty-thousand (120,000) who took part in special voting. This year, the numbers are about half of that. Excluding the electoral staff, we added the media this year so the media and security personnel count to about 29,773.”

In her welcome address, Ms AjoaYeboah-Afari, Chairperson of the Editor’s Forum (EFG) said the aim of the meeting, which was the third of its kind since 2012, was to provide the EC and the media an opportunity for a dialogue, ahead of the elections, to enhance understanding of the issues and promote better reportage.
